Bio Blast: Florida A&M Rattlers

The Miami Hurricanes are 1-0, but the Hurricanes have plenty to work on in Week 2. The same could be said for the FAMU, who is already 2-0 and looking to improve to a 3-0 record after this weekend.

FAMU’s head coach, James Colzie, will bring his crew to Miami Gardens this weekend as these two in-state programs meet for the third time in history on Saturday night, with UM owning a 2-0 series lead.

Let’s find out more about FAMU.

Former Hurricanes will be getting carries at the back

Thad Franklin, who played for Miami during the 2022 season, is worth keeping an eye on as a second-string player. Despite rushing for 202 yards during his sophomore season at Miami, Franklin decided to transfer to ULM due to certain circumstances. However, his performance there as he only managed to run for 47 yards. Franklin didn’t improve and is now looking to join FAMU and is working towards improvement and aiming for more playing time. It will be interesting to see how his journey unfolds at FAMU. In two games, Franklin has had 16 carries for 56 yards and has scored zero touchdowns.

FAMU has not lost a game in almost a year

Believe it or not, the Rattlers have not suffered a single loss in almost a year! It’s been an undefeated run since September 8th, when they were bested by in-state rival the USF Bulls. This was just a little nugget to put on here but this is something to know.

Florida A&M NEW QB is nothing to mess with

Although quarterback Jeremy Moussa and running back Terrell Jennings have departed, there are still compelling reasons to have confidence in FAMU’s offense. Notably, former FAU signal-caller Daniel Richardson, one of the transfers who joined the offense this offseason, has recently been announced as the Rattlers’ starter, bringing a wealth of talent and promise to the team.

When it comes to Daniel, his stats from the first game speak volumes. In a thrilling showdown against Norfolk State, he led the Rattlers to an incredible comeback victory from a 14-0 deficit. Richardson’s performance was nothing short of spectacular, completing 22 of 30 passes for 286 yards and three touchdowns.

FAMU’s offensive line has true talent

A fun fact to know. Out of all position groups, the Rattlers’ offensive line returns the most starters from last season’s HBCU College Football National Championship team.

In the critical area of the football field known as the trenches, the team’s offensive line stands out as the strongest and most vital position. impressive lineup, with over 13 returning players, including a potential NFL draft pick. Of notable mention, Jalen Goss is making a return as a 2022 All-American and All-SWAC member, while Ashton Grable is set to make a comeback as a 2023 All-SWAC member.
