BREAKING: Louisville Commit 2024 EDGE Cole McConathy Flips his commitment to Miami

It’s never over till it’s over. Cole McConathy sent shockwaves across the Hurricanes nation over the summer when he announced a commitment to Louisville, but today Miami changed that with a flip to Miami.

Things had been brewing for some time between Miami and McConathy. A visit for Miami’s last home game against Virginia, which resulted in an overtime victory, McConathy saw the defense play well – helped push the 6’5″ 225-pound pass rusher over the edge.

With his length and ability to get to the quarterback apparent already in high school, defensive line coach Jason Taylor and the staff envision him as a perfect complement to the three ends already committed in the class.

McConathy holds the Alabama state record for seven sacks in a game. He totaled 22 tackles, nine for loss, and two forced fumbles in the contest.

This season, he has 102 total tackles, 19 sacks, 30 tackles for loss, and four forced fumbles for a Spanish Fort team that is 9-2 and one of the top programs in the state.

“There were several reasons, that’s the most I’ve ever been recruited by a head coach. They made me and my family feel like a priority.  Along with a great education and getting coached by two legends as your position coach (Jason Taylor and Joe Salave’a).”

His relationship with the coaching staff and their plan for him played a role in his decision as well.

“So it was originally Phillip Rivers that got me in touch with Coach Stroud who coached him at NC State. From then on it was Coach Cristobal and the entire staff.  Their scheme is very similar to the one I’m in now and they plan on using me as an EDGE.”

The Yellowhammer State EDGE joins coach Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes’ top 15 2024 class. He is accompanied by four-star athlete Joshisa Trader, four-star EDGE Marquise Lightfoot, and others.

Welcome to the U!
