Cam Ward, Washington State QB, Transfers to Miami

Miami logged a blue chip win in the transfer portal from a Power Five program. On the heels of an official visit to Coral Gables, quarterback Cam Ward announced his commitment to Miami.

Ward is a bruiser in the passing and run game. The 6-foot-2, 223-pound quarterback has one year of eligibility remaining.

This is a significant addition to the Miami quarterback back room that’s undergoing significant turnover this offseason. Tyler Van Dyke hit the portal and Emory Williams will be out until the Spring cause of a injury, Jacurri Brown will be competing with Cam Ward.

Hurricanes fans should have high expectations going into next season if Miami also can get Washington State WR Josh Kelly, but there has not been no talk with him yet by the coaching staff.

Ward has Experience and Tools

A former no-star recruit, Ward spent two seasons at Washington State after transferring in from Division II Incarnate Word. He started 25 games for the Cougars, throwing for more than 6,400 yards and 43 touchdowns while adding 11 more scores on the ground.

The West Columbia, appeared in 25 games and completed 644 of 983 passes (65.5%) for 6,968 passes, 48 touchdowns and 16 interceptions across two seasons. Ward will be one to watch for West Coast teams like USC, Oregon and Washington.

Last season, he completed 66.6% of his passes for 3,735 yards, 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also added eight scores on the ground.

In 13 games with FCS-Incarnate Word, he completed 384-of-590 (65.1%) passes for 4,648 yards with 47 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions in 2021.

Ward is the perfect one-year fill-in for the Hurricanes and the perfect QB to give Miami
