CTPanthers: Carter Verhaeghe scores OT goal to lift Florida to 3-2 win over Tampa Bay Lightning

Ah, those Lightning tears sure are sweet. And they tasted so good inside Amerant Bank Arena, watching Tampa Bay fans hit the exists when Carter Verhaeghe hit the overtime goal. There is just nothing like it.

CanesToday was there soaking it all in, enjoying every second of the win. Sergei Bobrovsky was clearly the superstar for the Panthers. Bobrovsky stopped 21 shots, including some highlight-reel saves. I mean just look at this highlight below.

The Panthers opened the scoring with Sam Bennett finding the goal to make the Panthers go up 1-0. The Lightning ended up trying to challenge the play for goaltender interference but the goal ended up standing.

Sam Bennett, left early in the second period, seeming to hold his hand/wrist, and went directly down the tunnel toward the Panthers’ locker room as soon as he got off the ice. He did not return, with the Panthers calling it an upper-body injury.

Braden Point and Steven Stamkos scored for Tampa Bay, Vasilevskiy stopped 34 shots that came his way.

Coming into this game tonight the Tampa Bay Lightning had the best power play in the NHL during the regular season at 28.6% – had a 4-minute man advantage in the third after Eetu Luostarinen was whistled for high-sticking.

Florida killed that off, and the crowd was getting back into the game after two consecutive goals by the Lightning.

Neither team could get anything going with Sergei Bobrovsky and Andrei Vasilevskiy stopping everything left and right, therefore it forced overtime where Florida was able to come away with a 3-2 victory over Tampa Bay thanks to another clutch goal by Carter Verhaeghe.

His overtime winner just 2:59 into the extra session sent the sold out Amerant Bank Arena into a frenzy.

Up Next: On to Tampa with a 2-0 series lead.
