Dabo Swinney plans to give Clemson RB Phil Mafah a whole lot of carries during the 2024

Dabo Swinney clearly said that running back Phil Mafah will get many and many of carries this upcoming season in the 2024 season.

“Man, just a buffet, you know?” said Swinney. “All he wants.”

“It’s going to be great,” Swinney said. “That’s one of the reasons I think he came back – to be the guy. He wants an opportunity.”

Playing alongside Will Shipley in the backfield a season ago, Mafah played in all 13 games in 2023, finishing just shy of a 1,000-yard rushing season. He totaled 965 yards and 13 touchdowns on 179 carries — all career-highs. The Loganville, Ga., native also caught 21 passes for 108 yards.

From there, the question is how the rest of the position develops after Mafah going into the year. on is how the rest of the position after Mafah develops going into the year.

“The competition will be those guys behind him. We are excited about that,” Swinney noted. “We have some good young talent. We are excited to see how that goes in camp.”
