Damien Martinez named to Doak Walker preseason watch list

Miami Hurricanes transfer running back Damien Martinez has been named to the Doak Walker Award.

Damien had an amazing true freshman season where he ran for 982 yards and seven touchdowns. He then took it up another notch last season as a sophomore, running for 1,185 yards and nine touchdowns. Those 1,185 yards was enough for 24th best in the country. He was also involved in the passing game, catching 11 passes for an additional 126 yards.

“The PWC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name ten semifinalists in November, and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, will also be announced in November,” the release read.

An impressive sophomore campaign came after his freshman year of 982 yards and seven touchdowns. Despite not being the most sought-after recruit coming out of high school, Martinez hit the ground running and had been a productive player for Oregon State for two seasons.

Damien Martinez is a very good balance running back he might not have the run-away speed that elite first-rounders possess but he’s got plenty of juice for a 6-foot, 230-pound rusher.

Damien does show stunning maturity for a young runner with his patience at the line of scrimmage, I love his game I like when a running back can take one cut and go.
