Even with some mistakes, Matthew Cleveland was UM’s best player against Louisville

Matthew Cleveland did all he could to keep Miami in the game against Louisville. The forward finished with (22) points, rebounds (12), and assists (two) to go along with a steal. He shot an efficient 9-18 from the field and accounted for 33 percent of the Hurricanes’ made three-pointers (2-6) while also making 2/3 on his free throws.

Cleveland was essential for Miami in the second half, when he scored 15 of his points. He assisted on three straight field goals for the ‘canes. Without Cleveland, Miami likely loses to the Cardinals by plenty more than the 80-71 final score.

It’s not a stretch by any means to say that Cleveland is Miami’s best player right now. He’s averaging 15.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.4 steals in 32.4 minutes per outing. His shooting splits are even more impressive: 56.2 percent overall, 48.6 percent from deep, and 76.9 from the free-throw line. He’s been mostly steady and reliable.

All this being said, Cleveland was not perfect on Wednesday, particularly in the first half — Cleveland made some poor decisions with the ball that led to a couple of bad turnovers in quick succession.

But I don’t know about him but if I was him I couldn’t care less about how he performed individually on Wednesday , especially since the end result was still a loss.
