Film Room: Gavin Nix

One of the biggest storylines for Miami football entering the 2025 high school recruiting cycle had to do with linebackers. Could Derek Nicholson help fix the recent problems the program has had attracting talent at this premium position? Another step in the right direction was made on Monday night.

Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy linebacker Gavin Nix committed to the Hurricanes giving the program 15 high school commits in the class of 2025. The South Florida native and four-star prospect becomes the second true linebacker prospect in the class joining four-star recruit Elijah Melendez. Now it’s time to see what Nix’s latest recruiting win brings to the table.

CT’s Film Room is taking a closer look at the junior tape. Gavin Nix is a true linebacker prospect with excellent movement skills.

As a junior at IMG he finished second on the team with 42 total tackles. The 6-1, 215-pound defender also recorded seven tackles for loss, one sack and five quarterback hurries.

Nix is a 6-foot-1 linebacker and he is listed at 215-pounds and he is already built for having one more year of his high school career left. He plays with impressive power for such a young athlete. Nix lacks great height, but his length is impressive, his downhill burst stands out and his change of direction stands out on film.

Nick loves to study film over the opponents he plays at it really shows on the field.

He is a really good down hill runner on his tape and he will make the right tackle. He has the ability to be very versatile.

His closing speed is absolute ridiculous one of the best I have saw.

Nix can keep growing, he can change directions well and plant his foot and make a play, I really like this pickup here.
