Film Room: Herbert Scorggins

Anytime Miami lands a top-500 high school prospect on the recruiting trail it is a significant development. When the addition comes at a premium position that makes the recruiting win even sweeter. Jason Taylor and the Miami defensive staff landed a huge fish on Thursday.

Miami’s 14th commit in the class of 2025 is a top-500 recruit and a top-45 player in Georgia. CT’s Film Room is taking a closer look at what Hebrert Scroggins can bring to Miami’s defense. The prospect is a twitchy edge rusher with an impressive athletic profile.

Positional athleticism – The first thing that immediately stands out once you press play on Herbert Scorggins’ junior tape is the overall athletic profile. Miami’s latest commit needs to add mass and improve pass rush technique, but the raw tools are there. Works can run, jump, and pursue the quarterback.

Versatile – Herbert is versatile player on the defensive side of the ball where he could play at the edge or he could play the the linebacker position, he runs like a SEC tackler that should run.

Pass Rush toolbox – In pass rush reps, he is usually just trying to run around blockers. Moves and countermoves will need to be developed and sharpened at Miami.

Needs to stay low – A downside about his game is a lot of these clips he is very high, if he wants to play at Miami at his size he got to learn how to play low and getting more explosive.

Lives in the backfield – Kid will hunt you down and do whatever he can to get you in the backfield, something I love about his game.
