FINAL: Miami Defeats Rival Florida Gators 41-17 in Season Opener

Mario Cristobal kicked off his third season in Coral Gables with a win. Like most opening games, there were sloppy mental mistakes, but Miami still defeated rival Florida Gators 41-17.

Miami’s defense created the spark early as I said in my keys to a victory the Hurricanes got to start off quick which Lance Guidry’s defense did.

The Miami quarterback threw 26 successful passes for 385 yards, while throwing for three touchdowns, and had one interception. Damien Martinez led the Miami team with 15 carries for 65 yards and zero touchdowns. It appeared that the Hurricanes’ offense was well-coordinated and prepared to play.

Xavier Restrepo was the leading receiver for the Hurricanes; he grabbed seven receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown.

The offensive line was special

The Hurricane’s offensive line was special and was making holes for the running back and giving Cam Ward all the time in the world and that led to some great plays for the Canes.

Cam Ward was sitting in the backfield long enough to deliver some unbelievable balls to the receivers.

Rueben Bain injured

After the first drive of the game Ruben Bain came off of the field by limping off as he went into the Canes locker room, it was reported it was a calf injury as we will keep you guys updated on his injury.

Defensive Line Lives Up to the Hype

The Miami front seven was heralded as one of the best we’ve ever seen in Coral Gables. Facing a Florida Gators offensive line, Miami’s defensive line caused some problems for the Gator’s offense and the rushing attack despite giving up a 71-yarder to the outside. The Hurricanes had three sacks on the day with Tyler Baron, Jaden Harris, Elijah Alston, and Kiko Mauigoa getting to the quarterback tonight.

Canes fans showed up and showed out

Miami Hurricanes fans can I think you guys, all of you that were at Gainesville and even watching at home or Titanic, they made a real factor, and when the stadium got quiet the Canes fans were the ones that made the noise.
