Jayden Jackson, 4-star DL and Miami target, sets commitment date

Jackson, a 4-star defensive lineman, shared Friday evening that he will announce his commitment on July 13. He also announced a group of 5 finalists: Miami, Florida, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Texas.

Jackson is an elite prospect. He’s the No. 433 overall player and the No. 45 defensive lineman in the country for the class of 2024, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 65 player from the state of Florida. He attends IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. However, he’s originally from Brownsburg, Indiana. Jackson is listed at 6-foot-2, 300 pounds

On film, Jackson has a mean streak to him. He sheds double-team blocks, stays low, and once he gets a path to the QB, he closes with ease. Once he gets his arms around a QB or running back, he does not bring them to the ground gently. He makes sure that player regrets their decision to want to play football.

The critique on film, however, would be that his first step once the snap is made doesn’t always feel as explosive as it could. His path to the QB often feels like a locomotive that built up steam rather than a sports car that burst through the line instantly. But given his raw power, he still pushes back opposing linemen no matter his jump.

Jackson made five official visits in June with the Longhorns getting the last word. The 6-foot-1, 295-pound quick and powerful lineman made an official visit to Florida June 2-4, Ohio State June 9-11, Miami June 16-18 and Oklahoma June 21-22 prior Texas.

Ohio State has led in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine for months. Along with being on campus in Columbus multiple times over the years, he has a close relationship with Buckeyes defensive line coach Larry Johnson.

While Jackson is trending toward Ohio State, don’t count out Mario Cristobal and Jason Taylor ability to recruit a defensive tackle of Jackson’s ability. He could play both defensive tackle positions on all downs and be a terror for interior offensive linemen.
