Mario Cristobal is proud of the way the UM program took a step forward during win over Texas A&M

Miami Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal is proud of the way the wide receivers stepped up and made plays during a 48-33 win over Texas A&M on Saturday.

In order to win against Texas A&M, UM needed the players on the outside to step up and make plays and the group delivered in a big way.

Four receivers totaled at least 50 yards in the game. Slot receiver Xavier Restrepo led the group with 126 yards on six receptions. Jacolby George caught five passes for 94 yards and three touchdowns. Colbie Young caught six passes for 75 yards and a touchdown. Isaiah Horton caught one pass for 52 yards and a touchdown.

During an appearance on The Joe Rose Show on 560 WQAM, Cristobal praised the way the passing game performed in a big game.

“The difference [this season] is massive in terms of their approach to the daily meetings and coach Dawson has brought his scheme that inspires guys to work really, really hard,” Cristobal said. “They made big plays in some really big moments. We had some drops, but they just kept coming.

Miami’s receivers showed plenty of fight during the game, generating 241 yards after catch on the day as they showed physicality and a determination to fight for extra yardage.

“The thing that I liked was the way that they finished plays when they had the ball in their hands and when they didn’t have the ball in their hands,” Cristobal said. “Colbie Young catches a pass and he circles the field and they come to tackle him and he looked like the safety as he laid the wood on the other guy. The way we finished and played the game is the part everybody is excited about inside the building.
