Miami Basketball: Hurricanes to Face Colorado in NABC Showcase

The University of Miami men’s basketball team will battle Colorado on Sunday, Dec 10, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn N.Y., as part of the National Associations of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Brooklyn Showcase.

“The NABC is committed to advancing college basketball, and we are honored to assume oversight of one of the sport’s premier early season events,” said NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson. “We look forward to hosting this impressive field of eight programs at the iconic Barclays Center and providing a world-class experience for participants and fans alike.”

The Hurricanes and Buffs will tip off at noon MT, and the game will be the second of a quadruple header at the Barclays Center. Fordham and North Texas open the day, with St. John’s against Boston College and Temple against Albany following the Hurricanes.

Miami is coming off the first Final Four appearance in program history, defeating Drake, Indiana, top-seeded Houston and second-seeded Texas before losing to eventual champion UConn in the national semifinals.

The Hurricanes lost their top two scorers to the second round of the NBA draft earlier this summer — Jordan Miller went 48th overall to the Los Angeles Clippers and Isaiah Wong was picked 55th overall by Indiana. However, Miami still is set to return forward Norchad Omier, who averaged 13.1 points and a team-leading 10.0 rebounds, and guard Nijel Pack, who averaged 13.6 points and was one of Miami’s top long-range threats with a .404 3-point percentage. Pack was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Midwest Regional during the NCAA Tournament.

The Buffs faced Pack in the Miami guard’s second collegiate game when he was a freshman at Kansas State. Pack went 4-for-6 on 3-pointers with 12 points in a CU win at KSU on Nov. 27, 2020.

CU and the Hurricanes have met just once, but nearly 67 years will have passed when the teams finally tip off again. The Buffs posted a 73-66 win at Miami on Jan. 3, 1957.

Miami is 4-4 all-time at the Barclays Center, including 2-3 in the ACC Tournament and 2-1 in regular season action. Under 13th-year head coach Jim Larrañaga, the Hurricanes are 11-12 in NBA arenas, including 4-2 in the regular season, playing in eight different such venues across nine of his campaigns at the helm.
