Miami Basketball Player Breakdown: Matthew Cleveland

Today starts the series that we will be doing where we will breakdown each Miami Hurricanes basketball player and break down their game and what they can bring to Miami, today we got Matthew Cleveland

Scouting breakdown

Makes the right play – As cliche as it sounds he does make the right play at the right time, he is a very high-IQ player on the court if the highest IQ player out there he knows how to get it low and ish it or if the Canes need something as in a three he can make there man draw to him and dish it for an open man to get his teammate an open shot.

Spot up shooter – Cleveland averaged 13.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game during his 29 appearances this past season. The Atlanta native was the second-leading scorer and second-leading rebounder for the Canes last season. Cleveland also shot 35.7 shots from three.

NBA size – Cleveland’s size and scoring ability from the wing projected him to be a second-round pick if he had declared for the draft. Instead, he chose to come back for his senior season alongside fellow senior Nijel Pack, which should bring a sigh of relief to fans in Coral Gables. Cleveland is 6-foot-7, 208-pound wing.

Cleveland has NBA game – Cleveland excels in NBA games by taking down opposing defenders in one-on-one situations and showcasing his creativity when finishing in the lane. Due to the losses suffered by Miami’s roster at the guard position, Cleveland may expect to take on a larger offensive role in the upcoming season.

Brings experience to the team – No doubt this man could possibly be the leading scorer for the Miami Hurricanes. With his experience, he is one step closer to achieving that.
