Miami Football: Miami gets there first verbal commitment in the 2025 class

The Miami Football program received its first commitment in the 2025 class from three-star quarterback Luke Nickel. Nickel announced his commitment via social media. The 247 Sports composite has Nickel as the 342nd-ranked prospect, 26th QB and 38th recruit in Georgia out of Alpharetta Milton.

Nickel threw for 2,507 yards while completing 58.5 percent of his passes with 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions as a junior in 2022. Per 247 Sports Milton finished 10-4 in 2022 and advanced to the Semifinals of the Georgia AAAAAAA semifinals. Nickel’s brother Jack plays tight end for Michigan State.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Nickel chose Miami over an offer list that included Boston College, Cincinnati, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Stanford, Virginia Tech and West Virginia

“I think it was the best fit for me,” Nickel told 247Sports. He visited Coral Gables the last week of July. Offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson is the lead recruiter.

“The family vibe I got from them,” Nickel said. “It really did feel like the whole team and whole coaching staff really bonded together and I think that was the biggest thing. They all seemed together.”
