Miami Hurricanes News: five-star defensive lineman Kamarion Franklin has just schedule his 5th visit to Coral Gables

Miami Hurricanes football and coach Mario Cristobal is still in the hunt for the No. 1 recruit in the state.

Miami has been equally adamant in pursuing 2024 five-star defensive end Kamarion Franklin. Franklin stars for Lake Cormorant High School ( Lake Cormorant, Miss. ) where he set his high school single-season record for sacks with 19 as a junior. He’s got an NFL body type at 6-foot-5, 265-pounds, and could play base-end for the Hurricanes if he chose to play his college football in Coral Gables.

Franklin is the No. 36 overall prospect and the No. 7 defensive lineman in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 1 player in the state of Mississippi.

Franklin plays primarily a defensive end role in high school and has shown his skills at not only getting to the passer but plugging up holes and stopping the run game. He has totaled an impressive 150 tackles, 29 sacks, 35.5 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, and 4 interceptions over his career and still has a senior season to play.

Defensive line coach Jason Taylor has spent many hours making Franklin feel important and two weeks back at the camp he was getting a work-out in with coach Taylor. So that will make it a three-horse race between Miami, Tennessee, and Ole Miss. Franklin Has been to Miami four-times and one more to come and also went to Tennessee on official visits last month and has seen Ole Miss twice on unofficial visits in June.

He’s got a lot of positional versatility. Franklin could stay around 265-pounds and play a 5-technique, or he can get closer to 290-pounds and kick down to a 4i or a 3-technique. College coaches aren’t making any predetermination about what he will play in college – they might just let Franklin get on the practice field and see what works best for him. There’s a lot of pass-rush upside to his game. Franklin bends the edge well and has the hand-fighting skill to capture it. He could still add a consistent signature pass-rush move, but there’s plenty of time for that, and his assortment of tools already has him dominating the high school scene.
