Miami Hurricanes News: Miami Commit Marquise Lightfoot Shuts Down His Recruitment

Lightfoot told CanesToday that he would be shutting down his recruitment after previously begin open to taking visits.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pound edge rusher is among the top players in the country, as Lightfoot is ranked as the 6th best at his position and 67th overall national prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Ranking. He recorded 122 tackles, nine sacks, and three forced fumbles in his junior season at Kenwood Academy at Chicago, Illinois.

” What really caught my eye down there when I started to get recruited was their tradition and the history behind the Hurricanes,” he said. ” As I went down there and started focusing on Miami when i was there for my first unofficial i was really in tune with the coaches and really understood their vision and where they were headed.

The first thing mentioned about Miami is how hard they have recruited him and really how they have out-recruited just about every other staff and that led to him to commit,. The staff at Kenwood has said they haven’t dealt with a staff that has come this hard at one of their players. They stop in, they call both Marquise and the Kenwood staff regular and are very Interntional. Mario Cristobal and Jason Taylor have done the heavy-lifting and Lightfoot loves how Taylor had major influence over the EDGE position and paved the way for guys like himself to come after. So that led Miami to steal him from Ohio State and Illinois.

With Lightfoot shutting down his recruitment this means this is the first major recruiting vicory for new defensive line coach Jason Taylor.
