Miami Hurricanes News: Review of the film from Jerrae Hawkins

The Hurricanes are in the final six for the four-star receiver out of West Virginia

If you know about Hawkins, you know he is one of the fastest prospects in the nation. But how does that speed translate to the football field?

Hawkins, who holds offers from 12 Power Five schools, included Miami alongside Penn State, Louisville, Florida, Wisconsin and West Virginia. He is also coming down to Coral Gables to visit Mario Cristobal and wide receivers coach Kevin Beard on June 2, with other top wide receiver talent Drelon Miller out of (Silsbee, TX) who is commenting on June 29, hopefully Miami can have an excellent visit and try to steal Miller from USC and LSU that are in the mix for him.

Hawkins is listed as 5-foot-9, 165 pounds. But is lack of size is more than compensated for by his pure speed. He has a verified track speed with a personal best in the 100-meter dash of 10.37 seconds, similar to Christopher Johnson. Which he ran at the Texas relays this season.

On the field though, his speed is immediate on film. He doesn’t necessarily make catches with regularity that one would say are of high difficulty, but he is often wide open because no one else has the speed to keep up with him.
