Miami Left In the Dust, Canes Fall To No. 3 Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The University of Miami volleyball team fell to No. 3 Pitt, 3-0, Wednesday night.

Miami (17-10, 10-7 ACC) tallied 29 kills, 32 digs, 25 assists and five blocks. Graduate student Janice Leao earned six kills, two blocks and one dig.

Set one started tight, tied at eight-all, but the Panthers started to pull away midway through with a five-point lead on a 7-2 run. The Panthers continue the run and took set one, 25-15.

The second set consistently remained close, with kills from all around the court. Grace Lopez, Leao, Angela Grieve and Flormarie Heredia Colon all took a hand in the lead, while Abby Casiano and Leao helped in blocks. Despite earning 13 kills, Pitt closed in and took the second set, 25-21.

Pitt took a 6-3 lead to open the third set and maintained a dominant lead for the rest of it. With only eight kills and three blocks in the final set, the Panthers secured the win with a 25-12 set-three win.

The Hurricanes will finish the regular season on the road against Boston College on Saturday, Nov. 25.
