Miami Offense Must Improve on Third Down Efficiency and Touchdowns in the Red Zone in 2024

There are two stat line categories that are non-negotiable areas for improvement for Shannon Dawson Third down efficiency and touchdowns in the Red Zone. Let’s get into it, shall we?

Miami Third Down Efficiency

Shannon Dawson´s 2023 offense finished the season converting 67 of 163 attempts on third down. When Cristobal needed to extend drives, close out games, stretch a lead, and even play from behind; his offense frequently answered the call.

Why?

One obvious reasons for the 2023 decline were a struggling at quarterback and unimaginative play calling. Last year’s QB´s was just struggles at throwing the ball. The cold hard truth is that the QB simply did not meet program standards.

Frustrations were abounding. Changes had to be made and they were.

Touchdowns in the Red Zone

Offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson’s has led to excitement within the Hurricanes Nation, season ticket purchasers, recruiting circles, and with current players. A portion of his triumphs took place inside the twenty-yard line. But, Miami did not live upto the hype in the red-zone Miami is 13th out of 14 teams in ACC with touchdowns in 37.50 percent of its red zone trips. The Hurricanes need to improve on this in the 2024 season and I think they will with Cam Ward in the backfield were he can throw and run.

Why?

Copy and paste third down struggles to this portion of the article. The quarterbacks and play-calling lacked imagination to say the least. Turnover problems also reared their ugly head on far too many occasions.
