Miami Baseball signee left handed pitcher David Shields was drafted by the Kansas City Royals with the No. 41 pick in the Second Round of the 2024 MLB Draft Sunday night.

The slot value for the No. 41 pick is $2,278,000. The slotting system assigns specific dollar values to each draft position. These dollar values are MLB’s “recommended” bonus amount for the player drafted at whatever position they are picked at.

He will now have to decide whether or not he will sign his pro contract or play at Miami next season.

Shields was ranked the 64th best player in the Class of 2024.

Shields is the first Miami recruit to be selected in the draft as part of their 2024 recruiting class, which ranks fourth nationally and first in the ACC.
