Miami target OT Deryc Plazz sets commitment date for July 7

Deryc Plazz sets his commitment date for July 7th, he announced on Saturday on Twitter.

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound Florida native will either join Miami or NC State as the No. 74-ranked offensive tackle in the country, per 247 Sports. Plazz is the No. 6th offensive lineman in the class of 2024. Plazz told 247 Sports that he recorded 61 pancakes and allowed only one sack throughout his Junior year at Andrew Jackson High School.

Plazz is a three-star offensive tackle out of Jacksonville, Florida. The 247Sports Composite and On3 industry ranking both list Plazz as a three-star prospect and a top-75 offensive tackle recruit nationwide. The top two teams that are in it for him is Miami and NC State. Earlier yesterday a crystal-ball was put in for both teams, Gaby Urrutia crystal-balled Plazz to Miami, and Chris Nee put a crystal-ball for NC State.

He stated back in May that ” I want a program that develops the guys that are three or four-stars, not offensive line class every year ” Plazz told Sean Fitz of BlueWhiteIllustrated on May 13. ” I want a school that actually takes time to develop guys across the field.”

Plazz does not shy away from physicality while blocking. However, as is the case with many high school offensive lineman, his pass blocking certainly could use some work. He has good base and runs his feet well, but will need to refine his technique and play lower in the college level. Plazz also loves to finish his blocks, this guy plays to the whistle. He has great power in run blocking, it appears that he is bigger / stronger than most of his current high school competition so I could certainly see him needing a year to adjust to the college level if he commits to the Hurricanes.

The job that offensive line coach Joe Salave’a and Coach Mirabal has done with previous years such as 2023 class cannot be praised enough. They went out and found a bunch of players that fit Miami Hurricane’s style of play and will be great representatives of the Orange and Green Wall. Plazz is a raw talented player but after some coaching and time on the Hurricanes campus. I would expect him to be a Hurricane and expect him to be in the rotation along the Hurricanes Orange And Green Wall.
