Miami’s OL Samson Okunlola named top 20 potential breakout player

Miami Hurricanes sophomore offensive lineman Samson Okunlola was named into the top-20 potential breakout player according to an article by 247Sports.

Here is what they had to say about Okunlola.

Samson Okunlola got 30 reps as a freshman at left tackle. I do not project him to play tackle but (I) could see him competing for one of the guard spots…Okunlola…has kind of been the forgotten man. Can Mario Christobal (Sic) and Alex Mirabal get him right, or is he a miss? This season will be critical to his future at Miami.

Okunlola made his debut in the opening game against Miami (Ohio) and went on to play against Bethune-Cookman and Temple before his season came to an abrupt end due to an injury. Out of the 2023 recruits who were given any chance to play, Okunlola only managed to play 30 snaps, making his participation the lowest among the top recruits that year. It’s expected that Okunlola will be included in the starting lineup for 2024. Jalen Rivers and Mauigoa will return as the starting left tackle and left guard, respectively, in 2024. Rivers might be shifted to the guard position, and Okunlola could be moved to left tackle to slot in the top five OL players. With Mauigoa and Okunlola at Miami, the Hurricanes are set to have a much stronger front line in the next two seasons.
