Michael Pratt: A Name to Get Familiar With

Clint Brewster of 247 Sports, earlier today put a message out via the X social media platform that Tulane Quarterback is considering a transfer up to the Power 5 if he doesn’t go to the NFL.

The Michael Pratt name should come familiar to Canes fan because frankly, it about happened before this season. There wasn’t loud rumors, but from pretty reliable sources Pratt was a name that many surrounding the Hurricanes program thought would be the replacement to Tyler Van Dyke had he bolted for Alabama last minute. Pratt and Michael Penix were the two names that I kept hearing the staff felt they had, I don’t necessarily believe Penix would have came being a two time transfer then but I do believe Pratt would have been the choice.

Pratt has led Tulane to back to back sensational seasons including a top 25 ranking again this season. Pratt is from South Florida, Boca Raton to be exact and prepped at Deerfield Beach High School leading them to the class 8A semifinals in 2019. The signal caller would have one season left next year.

WHY DO WE THINK THIS IS POSSIBLE?

Last week we profiled Maalik Murphy at Texas, and yes we agree that was one that possible but not highly likely but was also worth mentioning. However, Pratt as Miami QB next year, we will give that a better than 50-50 chance to happen.

Pratt has a NFL future but also with the draft class of this season, he will not be a first round pick, maybe not even a day two selection. NIL money will be more for him in college and a better chance of a high draft pick next season.

Some will say, what about Van Dyke as he has another year left. Yes he does, but we think he will be gone. A mutual breakup as Van Dyke will more than likely transfer to another program as well Miami needs a change. Van Dyke has been hurt multiple times over the last two years and the program hasn’t had an experienced backup due to the fact the job was known to be TVD’s. Also, Van Dyke last year criticized the home environment and has expressed the willingness to play elsewhere.

Lets just finish this season strong Canes fans, get 10 wins possibly including a bowl game and go into next year and see what happens. As a Cane fan though, I would keep this one high on your radar as a name to watch.
