My Favorite Miami vs. Florida Football Moments

My Favorite Miami vs. Florida Football Moments

On the night of September 7, 2003, the Hurricanes were surrounded with hype as the early season match approached, Miami found itself in the third position nationally, by a 22-game home winning streak at the Orange Bowl, where as the Gators were positioned at #18.

The Canes and the Gators just didn’t get along, and that vibe hasn’t changed much today. Even though I wasn’t around to see this game, my dad was, and he mentioned it was one of the noisiest games he’d ever been to, and for those Canes fans that were back in the OB on that day could also possibly agree.

He told it me like this “When Devin Hester took the game-opening kickoff it was one of the loudest moments I have ever heard” And you can check that out below:

Watching this years later, once I was born, gives me chills down my back this is truly a video to watch to get you guys ready for the game this week. If Hester has a step on you might as well just stop running because you’re not catching that man.

Devin Hester blocking Florida’s kick in Peach Bowl

Yep, another Dein Hester moment as he killed the Gators in his career. In the first quarter of the Peach Bowl against the Gators, a field goal by Florida was successfully blocked by Miami, subsequently recovered by that man Devin Hester. He then advanced the ball all the way back 78 yards for a touchdown. The Hurricanes would ultimately secure the victory, winning the game by a score of 27-10 and eating peaches back home.

Frank Gore puts Miami up late in the 4th

In the same game in which Devin Hester made the opening kickoff return, Frank Gore capitalized on it late, scoring six points as the Hurricanes managed to rally from a deficit of 33-10. The Orange Bowl was lit after the game, marking it as one of the most memorable moments in Miami’s history during their encounter with the Gators.

Maybe some new Miami-Florida memories will be made in 2024?

(I might be pulling an all-nighter on GameDay.)
