Norchad Omier and Nijel Pack play big roles for Miami

Norchad Omier and Nijel Pack will have a key role in this season for the Hurricanes.

Omier is the Miami Hurricanes center standing at 6-7, Omier plays more of a face-up game with the ability to extend the defense rather than doing his work through and over opposing size and length inside.

Still, Omier was outstanding in the preseason exhibition against TCNJ, Omier had 23 points from the field, and 12 rebounds.

He established himself in Coral Gables this season as one of the most impactful Bigs in all of college basketball. He posted averages of 13.1 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest and helped lead the team to their first ever Final Four appearance, falling to the eventual National Champions in the UConn Huskies.

Omier transferred over from Arkansas State, and immediately showed that he is one of the best rebounders in the nation and earning the respect of many. Alongside fellow transfer Nijel Pack, the two made instant impacts in their first seasons.

Nijel Pack on the other hand, Pack played a key role for Miami last season after transferring from Kansas State. He averaged 13.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 44.1% from the field. His biggest game came at a good time as he dropped 26 points to help lead the Hurricanes past No. 1 seed Houston in the Sweet Sixteen.

Pack is an excellent, old-school point guard who can run an offense, and also run the break and provide critical veteran leadership.

How did Omier and Pack do against TCNJ?

Miami finished the night shooting 48.6 percent from the floor, 36.4 percent from distance, and 80 percent from the free throw line. The ‘Canes outrebounded TCNJ by 14 and finished with six fewer turnovers.

The veterans led the way for Miami against TCNJ. Norchad Omier was the team’s leading scorer with 23 points to go along with 12 rebounds, and two assists. He was aided by Nwoko, who chipped in 16 points on 6-9 shooting. Pack was next up in scoring with 13 points and seven assists.

The first half was pretty for the Hurricanes. Miami shot 56.8 percent from the field and connected on just 7-16 three-point attempts. Miami did have more turnovers than TCNJ with Miami having six first-half turnovers. A positive I can pull from the first half was Miami’s rebounding in the first half, Miami outrebounded TCNJ 30-to-13.
