Norchad Omier Named to Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award Preseason Watch List

The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced the preseason watch list for the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year award and Miami’s Norchad Omier was among the 20 players included on the list. The award recognizes the top power forward in men’s college basketball each year.

Omier, listed as a 6-foot-7 forward, established himself in Coral Gables this season as one of the most impactful bigs in all of college basketball. He posted averages of 13.1 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest and helped lead the team to their first ever Final Four appearance, falling to the eventual National Champions in the UConn Huskies.

Players are able to play their way on or off the list throughout the season. The Basketball Hall of Fame plans to narrow down the list to 10 players in later January and then name five finalists in March. The winner of the award will be announced at the Final Four in Phoenix. Omier and the Hurricanes are back in action on Oct. 29 when they host TCNJ in an exhibition contest. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m. ET.
