Preparing for the first opponent of the season is always a bit more difficult. That is even more true in the transfer portal era when so many programs experience significant turnover. However, the Miami Hurricanes could not have picked a tougher opening day opponent to prepare for. The NJIT Highlander are coming to town tonight.

Scouting Report

The NJIT Highlanders were 7-23 (4-12) last season and only finished better than Albany in the America East standings. NJIT only won three games prior to January, and it didn’t get much better after that.

The Highlanders lost to Vermont by a score of 84-57 in their first game of the America East Conference Tournament to finish their season.

NJIT scored 66.9 points per game with 34 rebounds per game and 11.2 assists per game, while allowing 72.7 points against per game last season.

The Highlanders did lose their two leading scorers from last year’s team, but they return Adam Hess who averaged 10.7 points per game, 2.2 rebounds per game, and 0.8 assists per game. NJIT shot 42.9% from the field, 66.4% on free throws, and 34.9% on three pointers last year.
