Take 5: Miami’s top targets heading into official visits

Take 5: Miami’s top targets heading into official visits

With Brock Schott, Girard Pringle Jr. , Luka Gilbert, Waden Charles, Elijah Melendez, Luke Nickel and Takaylen Muex already in the boat, the 2025 class is shaping up very nicely for Mario Cristobal during his third cycle in Coral Gables.

The Hurricanes are still looking to add to that group though and are set to host their top targets this weekend on May 31st.

Now it’s closing time for the coaching staff.

CanesToday is taking a look at five players who enter their official visits with Miami at the top of the recruiting board for this weekend.

1. Zion Grady

  • 4-star (No. 75 overall)
  • EDGE (6-4, 235)
  • Enterprise (AL.)
  • Skinny: Key target for Miami who is also considering Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State, and Tennessee.

Zion Grady has a busy few weeks on the schedule with official visits locked in with Miami (May 31) Florida State (June 7), Auburn (June 10), Tennessee (June 14), Georgia (June 21), and Ohio State (June 21). Grady is one of the top targets on Miami’s board for defensive line coach Jason Taylor.

Miami has made the massive edge a clear top target and should make a strong commitment push for Grady during his May trip to Coral Gables that will include multiple other edge recruits.

2. Eric Winters

  • 4-star (No. 80 overall)
  • S (6-2, 200)
  • Enterprise (AL.)
  • Skinny: The four-star safety is highly considering to play in the SEC

Leading up to his most recent visits, Eric said he wanted to take his final visits to Georgia and Miami before making a decision. Then, he’d return home to talk everything over with his family and coaches to finalize that choice.

With Georgia and Miami visits in the rearview mirror, it’s really hitting crunch time.

Miami is getting Winters on campus during its big official visit this weekend and will attempt to lock up a recruitment that could see some twists and turns.

3. Byron Lewis

  • 4-star (No. 211 overall)
  • RB (5-11, 200)
  • Fort Lauderdale, (FL.)
  • Skinny: Miami is fighting many schools for Byron

Byron has a big time recruiting visits ahead of him, It starts with an official visit to Coral Gables on May 31. He heads north to Wisconsin and Ohio State on June 7 and June 14 before returning to the Sunshine State for an official visit to Tallahassee on June 21.

Miami has a strong and deep running back room this season with lots of options that can be used in the ACC Conference season, adding him to the 2025 class would be huge.

4. Javeon Campbell

  • 4-star (No. 230 overall)
  • DL (6-5, 260)
  • Frankfort (Ky.) Western Hills
  • Skinny: The four-star defensive lineman is having an elite recruitment.

Javeon Campbell did not even start playing high football until the year of 2023, but that has not stopped teams from aggressively pursuing the defensive line prospect. Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Miami, and Ohio State are all progressively pursuing this blue-chip prospect.

But with him living in Frankfort (KY), I expect him to commit to Kentucky but with the Hurricanes getting him on campus this week lets see what the Canes coaching staff can stir up here.

5. Jaboree Antoine (LSU Commit)

  • 4-star (No. 56 overall)
  • CB (6-1, 170)
  • New Iberia, (LA)
  • Skinny: Miami and many other power five programs still pushing for him even though he is committed to LSU

Even though the Jamboree Antoine is committed to the LSU Tigers that does not mean coach Mario Cristobal will not stop recruiting him.

Cristobal had him on campus during Miami’s spring practice, it was actually a surprise visit.

Antoine, one of the top rated defensive backs in the cycle, remains a major priority for the Hurricanes, with the program now securing his services.
