Matthew Cleveland was UM’s best player against Virginia Tech

Matthew Cleveland did all he could to keep Miami in the game against Virginia Tech, and he got the Hurricanes the win. The forward finished with (21) points, rebounds (4), and assists (one) to go along with two steals. He shot an efficient 7-11 from the field and accounted for 64 percent of the Hurricanes’ made three-pointers (1-3) while also making 6/7 on his free throws.

Cleveland was essential for Miami in the first and second half, when he scored 12 of his points. Without Cleveland, Miami likely would of loss to the Hokies.

It’s not a stretch by any means to say that Cleveland is Miami’s best player right now. He’s averaging 16.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.4 steals in 32.4 minutes per outing. His shooting splits are even more impressive: 56.2 percent overall, 48.6 percent from deep, and 76.9 from the free-throw line. He’s been mostly steady and reliable.

It was not pretty but the Hurricanes got it done. Miami downs Virginia Tech in a scare 0-0.

Four Miami Hurricanes players got past double digits points against the Hokies tonight, those players were Matthew Cleveland with (21), Nijel Pack (19), and Norchad Omier with 14 points. Coming up behind them is veteran Wooga Poplar with 11 points.

As a team, Miami shot a combined 47.0 percent from the field despite a sloppy first half. The ‘Canes only turned the ball over 11 times against the Hokies defense tonight. The Hokies finished just 48 percent from the floor and a poor 10-33 from long range.

Nothing was falling for the Hurricanes in the first half with Miami shooting 26% from the field and 17% from deep at the break. The Hurricane’s leading scorer is veteran forward Matthew Cleveland with him having 12 points with three rebounds, behind him it falls off to guard Nijel Pack with 10, and Norchad Omier rounding it up with 4.

The Hurricanes will come back home to take on in-state rival the Florida State Seminoles.
