Monday with Cristobal

MORNING INTERVIEW ON THE JOE ROSE SHOW

Miami Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal made his weekly Monday appearance on The Joe Rose Show on 560 WQAM.

He was asked about the controversial call by the ACC officials that did not award Miami with a safety on a Wesley Bissainthe sack of FSU quarterback Jordan Travis

Rose stated in his question that he didn’t want to put Cristobal in a situation where he could get in trouble or be fined by the conference.

Cristobal kept his response short and sweet, “I don’t know or care if I get in trouble, that’s a safety.”

Injury Update on Miami Hurricanes quarterback Emory Williams

Emory Williams was the ‘starting quarterback’ against the Florida State Seminole’s after Tyler Van Dyke got benched. Emory was taking to the hospital Saturday evening after he severely injured his left-arm and that injury was on the Hurricanes last final drive.

Williams was injured on a fourth-and-2 run as he stretched his arm and dove for a first down. Multiple defenders crashed down on him, and he appeared to be in serious pain as he lay on the ground. An air cast was placed on his left arm, and he was carted off the field.

Williams, a true freshman, started the game over veteran Tyler Van Dyke to try to jump start the offense. Van Dyke had thrown 10 interceptions in his previous four games and did not play well in a loss to NC State last week.

It was an unfortunate conclusion to Williams’ second start of the season. He kept Miami in the game with timely plays, including an 85-yard touchdown to Jacolby George in the final frame to cut the deficit to seven. He finished 8/23 for 175 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions while rushing five times for -7 yards.

The Miami Hurricanes announced Sunday morning in a statement.

“Miami quarterback Emory Williams suffered a left arm injury during the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game and was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, the statement said. “He flew back with the team Saturday night.

“We will update his status when we have more information”.

And the plan is that he will be ready for Spring ball next season!

Williams, a true freshman, did not have surgery before leaving Tallahassee, but it was not revealed whether he will undergo surgery in South Florida.

Prayers to Emory Williams!!

Miami RB Donald Chaney Jr. Solidifies Himself as the Number Two Back

Admittedly, there weren’t too many positives to take away from Miami football’s 27-20 loss to in state rival No. 4 Florida State on Saturday. The Hurricanes were smacked in the mouth early and failed to respond until the second quarter, where the Hurricanes were in front of a packed Doak Campbell Stadium. But if we’re searching for something to be happy about, it would be Donald Chaney Jr. explosive plays against the Florida State’s defense.

Chaney, a fourth-year Redshirt Sophomore running back who missed nearly all of the 2022 and some of 2021 season with a torn ACL, he burned off a 26-yard run against the Seminoles and one play later he burned out another big chunk run that went for 29 yards to get the Hurricanes in the red-zone. The play happened with just under 6 minutes left in the first half. Chaney took the handoff from quarterback Emory Williams that later went down in the game, Chaney founded an outside hole at the line of scrimmage, and then sprinted his way straight ahead before getting pulled down at the FSU 5-yard line. Three plays later Miami would throw a fade route to Jacolby Geroge to get a 3-yard passing touchdown.

Chaney ran for 85-yards against the Florida State defense, he also accomplished to get 12 rushing attempts with averaging 7.1 yards per play, but he did not get a touchdown against the FSU’s defense but made a big impacted for this Hurricane’s offense.

Miami opens as slight underdog versus Louisville

As Miami faces season-saving back-to-back home and away matchups to close out regular season action, the Hurricanes will be underdogs in the first down in Hard Rock.

Taking on the Louisville Cardinals they mainly done clinched a spot in the ACC Championship Game, Louisville has opened as a 2.5-point favorite, according to the early lines released by FanDuel. The moneyline has been set at -142 in favor of the Cardinals while the over/under sits at 46.5 points.

However, ESPN’s Matchup Predictor does give Miami a favorite in this one, which has now lost three of its last five games this season, a 52.8% chance to pull off the victory inside Hard Rock Stadium.
