How To Watch

Miami (11-3) vs. Louisville (5-9)
7:00 p.m. ET | Wednesday, January 10 Watsco Center

Louisville offense is not good, Hurricanes should dominate

There aren’t many positives when it comes to the Louisville Cardinals offense. Aside from scoring 25.2% of their points from the free throw line, the 12th most nationally, and being very good on the offensive glass, there isn’t much they can hang their hat on. Also, admittedly, relying on free throws and offensive rebounds for offense is a losing proposition. Coach Kenny Payne’s group will look to attack in transition, but they turn it over too frequently and are actually one of the worst transition offensive teams in the country. Their 0.904 points per transition possession, per Synergy, ranks 340th nationally. In the half court they will set ballscreens and run sets for interior catches but those haven’t been very effective either.

As a whole, Louisville’s offense ranked 195th in KenPom’s adjusted offensive efficiency. Their 29.4% mark from three-point range is 306th in the country. Again, aside from free throws and offensive rebounding, this group doesn’t find much success on the offensive end of the floor. The defensive game plan will be to simply to stay between the Cardinals and the basket and then go rebound the basketball. Let’s take a closer look at some of what we will see offensively from the Cards.

The Hurricanes should easily dominate this game on both offensive and defensive side.

Miami is a No. 9 seed!

In Lunardi’s latest Bracketology update from Monday morning, he kept the Miami Hurricanes in the pecking order. Miami is still a No. 9 seed in the projected field for the 2024 NCAA Tournament. Lunardi has the Hurricanes taking on No. 8 seed Ole Miss Rebels Indianapolis as part of the Midwest (Detroit) Region. UM is in a region that includes No. 1 seed Purdue and No. 2 seed Kentucky.

In this scenario, a win for Miami in the first round would set up a second-round matchup against the winner of No. 1 seed Purdue and a No. 16 seed.

Lunardi will keep the Bracketology updates rolling every Tuesday and Friday through Selection Sunday on March 17.

On3’s updated 2025 player rankings include several five-star Miami targets

As Jim Larranaga looks to put the finishing touches on Miami’s impressive 2024 recruiting class, the 2025 class might actually have the deeper, more talented group of high school prospects.

On Monday morning, On3 updated their 2025 On3 150 basketball player rankings. This is the fifth update for this cycle (the first since October) and the third with a full top 150. Of the 10 high school juniors that Miami has extended scholarships to so far, all of them were ranked among On3’s top 25 including six five-star prospects in the top 10.

  • No. 2 (5-star) – Cameron Boozer (PF) 6-9, 205 | Christopher Columbus (Miami, FL)
  • No. 5 (5-star) – Isiah Harwell (SG) 6-5, 190 | Wasatch Academy (Mount Pleasant, UT)
  • No. 7 (5-star) – Meleek Thomas (SG) 6-3, 175 | Lincoln Park (Pittsburgh, PA)
  • No. 14 (4-star) Joson Sanon (SG) 6-5, 180 | Vermont Academy (Fall River, MA)
  • No. 25 (4-star) – Cayden Boozer (PG) 6-3, 190 | Christopher Columbus (Miami, FL)

As things currently stand, Miami does not yet have a commitment from the 2025 class, but of the 6 recruits listed above, the Hurricanes are either considered frontrunners or are among the top two or three choices in the majority of them.
