Talk CanesToday: NFL Playoffs, MLK Day, WBB falls to ND, and More

Now, your Monday morning rundown of less important things, like the latest in UM Athletics and Dallas Cowboys’ misery:

NFL Playoffs continue (without the Cowboys)

We entered the weekend with five NFL Playoff games on the schedule, and almost all of them were played as planned. In Buffalo, a winter storm postponed the Bills-Steelers game from Sunday until Monday, so we have that one to look forward to later today. Kickoff is at 4:30. Fans got the snow cleared.

Around the rest of Wild Card Weekend, the home teams won in Houston, Kansas City, and Detroit, meaning the Browns, Dolphins, and Rams have all gone home for the summer. The Dallas Cowboys, too. Yesterday, the Cowboys got destroyed at Jerry World as the No. 2 seed in the NFC, allowing 48 points to Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers. By winning, Green Bay became the first No. 7 seed to advance to the next round.

Here’s your updated Divisional Round schedule with two games still to play. Philadelphia and Tampa Bay follow Buffalo and Pittsburgh today.

UM Tennis starting off hot

On campus, Miami Men’s Tennis has started off their season hot, they are 2-0. The Hurricanes earned a No. 21 ranking in the ITA preseason poll, and today, Admission is free to fans. The next match is Jan 19, against Buffalo so get in there.

Miami WBB Comes Up Short Against No. 19 Notre Dame

Miami women’s basketball (11-5, 1-4 ACC) outscored No. 18/19 Notre Dame (12-3, 3-2 ACC) by seven in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough as the Canes came up short in the road-swing finale, 70-59, Sunday, Jan. 14.

Shayeann Day-Wilson and Jaida Patrick tallied double-digit scoring games, going for 11 and 15 respectively. The first and third quarter saw just a two-point margin between both sides, but Notre Dame used a strong second quarter to create the margin.
