This Football team is Different

We’ve seen this story before. The Canes start the season with a nice winning streak only to falter by the middle of October. Every year, I find myself saying, “No, this team is different. We will win 9 games.” Well, here I am again drinking the Kool-Aid, because I’m telling myself the same thing: this team is different.

It seems that the team is using a specific motivation to drive their performance. When the Vegas line set their win total at 9, the team seemed to take it personally and use it as fuel. Similarly, when the Florida team talked all week, it motivated our team to rally around the challenge.

This team shows a certain confidence. You could see it last week in the victory over Florida – a quiet belief in themselves. Apart from last season, it was one of the first games in a while when they played against Florida where the players genuinely believed they were going to win. Moving forward, I believe they can maintain that mindset.

Cam Ward is a legitimate Heisman contender. But the fact that a Miami player is even being mentioned in the conversation shows how far this program has come.

Ward is one of those players who could legitimately lead the Miami team to multiple significant wins for the rest of the season. As I mentioned before, this team has both swagger and a chip on their shoulder, and no player embodies that more than Cam Ward.
