Today on CT: Happy ‘EA Sports College Football 25’ Day! Plus, Summer League and lots more

Today’s the day, friends. We’ve waited over a decade for a new college football video game, and EA Sports College Football 25 will finally be released later this afternoon to all who pre-ordered the deluxe edition. The game will launch to everyone else on Thursday.

A couple of weeks ago, I shared my very serious concerns about the game and what it will do to families. Those concerns become a reality today as many of 80s and 90s kids such as Tirone, welcome video gaming back into our lives after many years away from the sticks. How will we balance full-time head coaching and our daily responsibilities at home and work? I don’t know. I’ve already made my bed, just in case. The fridge is stocked for a week, too.

Before I lock myself in a cave for the unforeseeable future, join me for another Monday morning rundown on CT. This one is pretty busy.

Miami signee David Shields drafted by the Kansas City Royals with the No. 41 pick in the 2024 MLB Draft

Miami Baseball signee left handed pitcher David Shields was drafted by the Kansas City Royals with the No. 41 pick in the Second Round of the 2024 MLB Draft Sunday night.

The slot value for the No. 41 pick is $2,278,000. The slotting system assigns specific dollar values to each draft position. These dollar values are MLB’s “recommended” bonus amount for the player drafted at whatever position they are picked at.

He will now have to decide whether or not he will sign his pro contract or play at Miami next season.

Shields was ranked the 64th best player in the Class of 2024.

Jordan Miller absolutely cooks in his second summer league game

ordan Miller put on the best two shows on the entire League debut. Hurricanes favorite second-year rookie just had his second second 20 plus game this summer league.

From his first NBA summer league game this year Miller shined in the Clips’ Summer League opener, filling up the stat sheet. The 24-year-old had a highly efficient 36-point performance against the Nuggets, shooting 60% from the field.

Yesterday, Miller finished with another big time game with him racking up 21 points to lead the Clippers to an 87-78 victory Sunday against the Brooklyn Nets in a Summer League game at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

This year I think this is where Miller will show that he is a legit forward and will get playing time in the NBA.

Team USA to play Australia in an exhibition tune-up

Around lunchtime today, you can watch the U.S. Olympic Basketball Team play another exhibition game, this time against Australia in Abu Dhabi. Australia won the bronze medal in the last Olympic Games, so the Americans have some competition with the Aussies, including NBA players Josh Giddey, Joe Ingles, Dante Exum, Jock Landale, Dyson Daniels, Patty Mills, and Josh Green.

You can watch the USA-Australia exhibition at noon on FS1.
