Today On CT: Happy July 3rd-Independence Day Eve

Today’s weird. Is it a holiday, not a holiday? It’s an awkward Wednesday, July 3. Many of you made it a five-day weekend, but here at CT, we are not holiday-ing, so you can expect a full day of content from and me. (Tomorrow, too. What’s a day off?) After all, we’re staring down a recruitment that Miami could land today and many more ahead.

Let’s jump right into what’s topical today.

Everyone still got their fingers?

In my neighbourhood, several very passionate Americans already began celebrating the 4th of July a day early. Last year my family was setting off fireworks as things were finishing up my grandpa car was smoking and everybody had no clue what happened until they saw him pull up in the drive way and a firework got caught on the car, thankfully everything and everybody was save but we are hoping for a safe Night 4 of fireworks here and wherever you celebrate. Let’s all wake up with 10 fingers on Monday morning.

Miami Football landed a huge Sunday commitment

On Monday, the University of Miami added a new piece to its 2025 football recruiting class with a commitment from Gavin Nix, a linebacker out of Brandenton FL, with a four-star 247 ranking. The No. 169 overall player in the 247Sports rankings, Gavin attends IMG Academy and chose to play his college ball an hour south of the river in Coral Gables, picking the ‘Canes over the likes of FSU, Oregon, Florida, and others.

Dereon Coleman commits today in the afternoon

Four-star quarterback of the 2026 class that is rated as a four-star prospect Dereon Coleman will commit today on his birthday of July 3rd, first can we wish him a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

He told me that he will commit on his birthday tomorrow on July 3rd and Miami is the headline in his recruitment ahead of his decision date.

He is the No. 301 overall player in the 2026 247 Ratings and top-50 player in Florida, Shannon Dawson can have a chance to locked up one of the top targets on Miami’s high school recruiting board.

Lynn Kidd made his practice debut

Also on Tuesday, the newest member of Miami Basketball, Lynn Kidd, joined his new teammates for his first official practice as a Hurricane.

Isaiah Wong reportedly not with the Pacers no more

It was reported by Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel that former Miami Hurricanes great guard Isaiah Wong his no longer along with the Pacers summer league team and is searching for a new home.

Isaiah Wong averaged 15.7 points, four assists and 3.6 rebounds on 41.4% shooting from the field in 30 games with the Mad Ants. He produced seven 20-point games, including a career-high 30 points and four assists on Nov. 25.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July holiday.

Whatever you do today, tonight, and tomorrow, don’t let your drunk uncle near the fireworks and think twice before you get behind the wheel if you’ve had a couple. It’s a time to have lots of fun and celebrate America, but don’t do anything dumb or put anyone in harm’s way. We want you around for many more 4th of Julys, too.

God Bless America and Go Canes!
