Tyler Van Dyke Still Struggling After Week 8 Win Versus Virginia

Tyler Van Dyke Still Struggling After Week 8 Win Versus Virginia

Even though Miami won last night in a scare versus Virginia, the passing game still lacks, and still the biggest problem on the offense.

Miami is through four-ACC games, Tyler Van Dyke is completing 75.8 percent of his passes even though that seems great, which it is great. Van Dyke has had some struggles coming off of an injury these past three weeks, and we saw that take place during the Virginia game, when Van Dyke threw for 0 touchdowns and had 2 INT against Virginia.

Yesterday afternoon when the Hurricane’s hosted the Virginia Cavaliers, Miami had to rely on the run game more than what they should of, Van Dyke threw some questionable balls that he knew he should of not of threw, but, it was more of underthrown balls.

Looking back at the game Van Dyke had a brace on his right knee, but that did not have anything to do with his arm so what could be his problem with underthrowing balls? He just don’t have the accuracy to get it to the wide receivers, and some might say its on the wide receiver’s, well look at this play where he was just staring down one wide receiver and that led to an easy pick, when he had multiple options open.

Tyler Van Dyke is showing leadership, after the game post-game he stated that he has to be better. Van Dyke himself said that he has to take what the defense gives him and not be anxious for the chunk plays and take check downs over and over to move the chains. Van Dyke said he forced some balls down field for the second week in a row when check downs were open and was quoted as saying, “he hasn’t learned his lesson yet, and he has to get better.”

Miami fans were calling/chanting for Emory Williams the true freshman that we saw come in and start versus Clemson, to come into the game after Miami threw the pick against the Virginia’s defense, Miami was also getting “booed” after that play.

Let’s just hope Van Dyke and coach Shannon Dawson can get this all figured out before Miami has to travel to Raleigh North Carolina to face an (5-3) NC State Wolfpack team that just came off of a win against Clemson, then after that Miami will take another road trip to Tallahassee to take on in-state rival Florida State, that could possible be primetime.

Let CanesToday know on how you think Miami is going to do with this problem with the quarterback against NC State coming up?

  1. Need to pull TVD if he continues to force da ball and not take what the defenses give him. Time for Emory William, groomhim for next year with expierence.

  2. I think he’s in love with Restrepo, don’t get me wrong. Restrepo is a very good receiver, but he needs to look around and not just be a tunnel quarterback. It’s like if he has in his mind before the snap who is throwing the ball to and sometimes the person is not open and he ends up. throwing the ball into double coverage no matter what he needs to look around more.

  3. we need to place it all in perspective. He’s struggling with a knee and a rib issue. Tad fuel to the fire. He also has the three ligaments that were damaged on his right throwing hand. So, even before these other two injuries, he was struggling to be on target. He doesn’t have the same velocity on the ball and he’s trying to work through the injuries, so my question is a 70% Tyler van Dyke better than a 100% Emory Williams? I think the answer is no I think you need to let him heal for the next couple weeks to get him prepared for Florida State or Louisville which is gonna be your top competition. I believe making him work through it. It’s gonna become counterproductive and cost you games and time and take what was potentially a great season and flush it for the hope that he can overcome what are considerable injuries. This also has to be a coaching decision and since I’m not informed, I’m just going by observation, and I totally respect with the coaches decide.
