What A.J. Staton-McCray commitment means for Miami

The wait is over, A.J. Staton-McCray is a Miami Hurricane. The Samford star recommitted from the FAU Owls to commit to Miami.

This was such a nice pickup and now the Miami Hurricanes roster is now complete.

What does it mean for Kentucky? That part is pretty easy.

Experience and continuity

The staff had brought in 5 new scholarship players up to this point, all talented and unique with a balance of young and old.

Staton-McCray is a 6’5″, 195-pound junior guard that’s played 62 games over the last two seasons at Samford. He is a very experienced player and could see a starting roll at Miami.

Another top-tier shooting threat

As things stood, Jalen Blackmon was the player set to take (and hopefully make) the big shots in crunch time, Nijel Pack also firmly in that conversation. There are other shooters on the roster — Jalil Bethea and Austin Swartz are snipers.

A.J. brings that group to a different planet, a guy who graded out in the 91th percentile in catch-and-shoot threes with a 62 effective field goal percentage, He will be able to play fast which is really good cause he played for Samford or could be better known as Bucky Ball and they were probably the fastest teams In all of college basketball last year.

Remember how Isaiah Wong, Jordan Miller, opened things up and created clean looks possession after possession on the floor together? That’s the vision bringing another go-to shooting specialist into the mix, another threat to hit the big one.
