What to know about Mario Cristobal’s’ latest transfer portal haul

Mario Cristobal, one of the most aggressive head coach in college football when it comes to attacking the transfer portal, has worked his magic again for the Miami Hurricanes.

As of this writing, about 10 transfers have joined Cristobal’s Hurricanes ahead of what should be another entertaining season in Coral Gables. Those newcomers, along with some talented incoming freshmen, are now about two months away from their first fall camp at Miami.

Below are three things you should know about the impressive group of transfers who’ve joined the Hurricanes this offseason:

Better in the secondary

Coach Mario and his staff quickly addressed Miami’s biggest weakness on defense, adding several talented and defensive backs.

Miami had a huge recruiting win with Washington transfer Mishael Powell committing to Miami. In 876 snaps this past season, Powell played 477 in the slot, 165 in the box, and 122 at free safety. He finished the year with a strong 73.9 coverage grade and brought in three interceptions, including one in the Pac-12 title game against Oregon, and defended nine more passes, according to 247.

The Hurricanes also added Marshall defensive back Dyoni Hill out of the portal that he ranked eighth amongst the Sun Belt Conference in passes defended. The next step for the soon-to-be junior cornerback is to begin turning those defended passes into interceptions.

Legit running back group

There is no question that the Miami Hurricanes would not have one of the best running back groups in college football with the Hurricanes adding 1,000 Damien Martinez.

First of all Miami has returned Mark Fletcher, Ajay Allen, and Christopher Johnson, Miami is also bringing in Jordan Lyle and Chris Humphrey from the 2024 class.

All of these kids are top dawgs and will make a huge impact in the Miami Hurricanes offence next season.

Mark Fletcher and Ajay Allen along with Damien Martinez all bring college experience to the table.

The Hurricanes have struggled to maintain a healthy running back room in each of the last two years but with Miami adding Martinez say if he does go down Miami will have some experienced backs to back him up.

Mark fletcher is hurt right now with a lower body injury but you can expect him to at least be back for the Hurricanes season or we hope.

the freshman Jordan Lyle and Chris Weathly-Humphry will bring in much depth ton the room and complete for a 3-4 spot on the team.

Scariest Defensive Line In The Country

Yes you saw that right the Hurricanes will have one of the bets if not the best defensive line in the country.

From the portal the Hurricanes have added four players from major program on this defensive line. (Tyler Baron, C.J. Clark, Elijah Alston, Marley Cook).

The Hurricanes also had three five star defensive lineman that they added thru the 2024 class with EDGE Marquise Lightfoot, DL Justin Scott, DL Armondo Blount all coming in this season.

Be on the look out for this defensive line.
