Transfer Bio Blast: Tyler Baron

Transfer Bio Blast: Tyler Baron

The spring transfer portal window has been closed for nearly a week, but that does not mean that the free agent activity has slowed down. College football programs are still hosting transfers on visits and attempting to lock up commitments to fill remaining roster holes. Miami is once again telling us without telling us that they are shopping in the EDGE market.

Tennessee EDGE Tyler Baron has entered the portal for about two weeks now and Miami is trying to close in on him after a visit to Miami last week.

Miami could provide that home, and could give the Hurricanes another player to add to the defnieve linemen room.

Blue-chip EDGE recruit

Tyler Baron was a star edge in the class of 2020 playing at Knoxville Catholic (TN.) Baron became the starter at Knoxville Catholic for his senior year after he decided to transfer out of The Ensworth High to play for the Fighting Irish. As a senior, he had 105 tackles and nine sacks. He committed to the University of Tennessee to play college football, but after deciding that he would enter the portal he is looking for a new home.

After that season, Baron saw his recruitment blow up. The prospect became a consensus four-star recruit. That ultimately led to a commitment to Tennessee.

Experienced SEC starter

As a true freshman at Tennessee, Baron played in all 10 games and had 21 tackles and one sack. As a sophomore in 2021, he started five of 13 games, recording 30 tackles and four sacks. Baron started three of 13 games in 2022 and had 22 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

Baron was an important contributor during all four of his seasons with Tennessee.

Scouting Notebook

Tyler Baron brings a ton of starting experience to the table and his ability to touch the field. There is still some upside with the defensive line.

Here is my scouting write-up on the SEC transfer.

Tyler Baron (6-5, 250) played in a primarily 4-2-5 defense at Tennessee under Tim Banks defensive coordinator in 2021, that applies pressure to the quarterback. I would definitely think if Baron transfers to Miami he would be used in this Guidry’s blitz packages along with Bain, Mesidor and others. Baron is very built his body is like a professional workload; however, he needs an atmosphere that will cater to him and allow him to become the best version of himself.

Here is a film breakdown on him:
